As much as I like AI and consider myself an optimist, I don’t see anything wrong with the anti-AI people.
If your company tells you that you’ll soon be replaced, or you’ve already seen people get laid off, their criticism makes sense. Everyone has families to take care of.
But then swoops in AI maximalist who claims we need to sacrifice our jobs etc for the greater good. So that the AI companies can prove the economic value. And that they might cure cancer or colonise Mars in a few decades.
A regular person doesn’t have the luxury to look so far ahead. You might be making a ton from AI, but many don’t.
I’m not saying we need to stop AI development or help them find jobs, but their criticism is understandable. But most AI companies brush off their concerns, which will come to bite them.
