A post about candidates who refuse AI or ask it to “solve this” during pair programming interviews.

There are companies out there that are shifting to AI assisted coding interviews. I’ve never been through one, but neither can I nor most devs say we don’t use AI to code. 99.9% of the code in my work is written with AI, and it’d be foolish of me to try to refuse AI.

But It also means that saying ‘solve this’ is not how it should go. I need to guide LLMs better. That’s what my new job role is.

Sure Claude will solve the task, but without any understanding of how, what and why, I’d be nothing but a monkey pressing buttons.

If OP has posted this ‘solve this’ situation, they’ve likely met a lot of candidates doing this. I’m shocked that this is how people are using LLMs.
