I’ve been checking out LangChain’s Deep Agents, and the Deep Agents they offer don’t just summarise the old context. They also store the entire conversation history in your backend. And the summary includes the file path.
If an agent needs information from before compaction, it can use the path to read the full history instead of relying on the summary.
I’ve been using the Claude Agent SDK primarily. It also keeps conversation history, which, as I understand it, is more useful for resuming an agent. In my experience, compaction does not pass a file path that the agent can use to read the full history.
